Research Project , Research Report 2007

Hiroyuki KATAYAMA Dep. of Urban Engineering, School of Engineering, Univ. of Tokyo

Quantitative detection of viruses in environmental water bodies provides useful information on occurrence of pathogenic microorganisms in the interested area. The viruses were successfully determined from river river samples in Pearl River watershed near Guangzhou and wastewater in Shenzhen, China. Enteric viruses including noroviruses were found in the wastewater. Viruses were removed by biological wastewater treatment approximately 90%.
